In order to transform a low-ceilinged basement into an enjoyable children’s library, several elements are combined: mesh ceiling surfaces give a veiled view into the joist space to dissolve the perceptions of height; plaster areas tilt slightly to conceal mechanical equipment, and child-scaled shelves and furnishings maximize the perceptions of space.
